Gildernew - History exposes SDLP policing position

Sinn Féin MP for Fermanagh and South Tyrone Michelle Gildernew today said that the SDLP must be hoping that the nationalist community is suffering from memory loss if they expect their recent comments on policing, plastic bullets and collusion to be taken seriously.
Ms Gildernew said:
"In recent days and again in a advertisement in today's Irish News the SDLP have sought to rewrite three decades of their policing policy. There are a number of facts on Policing that no amount of desperate spin from Mark Durkan and his colleagues can alter:
The SDLP supported the RUC, including its force within a force - Special Branch
The SDLP encouraged nationalists to support the RUC
The SDLP dismissed collusion as ŒRepublican propaganda'
The SDLP never demanded the disbandment of the RUC
Sinn Féin introduced the Policing issue to the political negotiations
Alex Attwood said that his party could 'work with' Ronnie Flanagan
The Policing Board, which the SDLP are part of, extended Flanagan's contract
The Policing Board including the SDLP purchased tens of thousands of plastic bullets
Mark Durkan has stated he accepts a role for MI5 in Ireland
The SDLP accepted and claimed as a victory the integration of MI5 into the PSNI
"Mark Durkan and the SDLP must be hoping that the nationalist community is suffering from collective memory loss if they expect people to take their recent comments on policing, plastic bullets or collusion seriously." ENDS
