A former political prisoner, Raymond participated in the first Hunger Strike in 1980 and has been active since his release with ex-prisoners groups across Ireland, currently serving as the Chairperson of Coiste na n-Íar Chimí.

Raymond is an active Sinn Féin member and has been central to the development of the Sinn Féin Peace Strategy
